Q: How old do I have to be to become a
member of your Department?
A: There are several classes of membership within the Harwinton West
Side Volunteer Fire Department. These classes include Interior Fire
Fighter, Exterior Fire Fighter, Support Services, Fire Police,
Associate, and Junior Fire Fighter. Most classes of membership require you to
be at least 18 years of age, while youth-aged applicants can join as
Junior Fire Fighters at 15 years of age. We require members to be at least 21
years of age in order to operate apparatus in "emergency" mode.
